Waymo's Driverless Cabs Planned for London Roads Starting 2026.

The US-based company Waymo has revealed that its self-driving cabs will be on offer for use on London's streets beginning next year.

UK Capital Named as Leading European City for Autonomous Cab Service.

The UK capital will emerge as the inaugural European city to host an autonomous taxi service, akin to those currently in use in San Francisco and four other American locations employing Waymo's cutting-edge technology.

Initial Testing Phase to Commence with Trained Operators.

Waymo confirmed that its fleet are now heading to London and will start operating on the city's streets in the coming weeks with experienced operators in control.

Waymo – initially created as a derivative from Google's self-driving car program and part of the larger corporate umbrella – stated it would increase activities and work closely with the UK transport authorities and the city's mobility organization to secure the necessary licenses to deliver totally self-driving services by 2026.

Growing Interest in Autonomous Mobility Across London.

Other organizations, including Uber and the UK-based tech company Wayve, have additionally announced their own strategies to pilot driverless vehicles in the city next year.

This follows the government officials announcing it would fast-track regulations allowing real-world tests to occur before legislation supporting self-driving vehicles is enacted in full.

“It is exciting that Waymo plans to introduce their technology to London next year, under our proposed piloting scheme,” said the official, the secretary.

Comprehensive Introduction Projected After Regulatory Framework Comes into Force.

A fuller introduction of self-driving taxis is anticipated in the UK after the related legislation comes completely into force in 2027.

Waymo's Current Presence in the UK and Internationally.

Waymo currently has links to the UK after opening its first European research base in Oxford in 2019.

The company is furthermore introducing offerings in Tokyo using Jaguar Land Rover eco-friendly cars, marking its second current operation outside the United States.

Waymo introduced its self-driving taxis in 2020 and presently states it has transported over ten million passengers in the US.

Despite some alarming incidents, Waymo asserted that statistics showed that vehicles driven by humans were associated with accidents that injured walkers 12 times more often than its driverless cars.
