Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks the player's first championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hard court from March of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, comprising in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the elite level was over.

But the player has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing four of the last five games to gain the advantage.

The pair traded service breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his initial tour victory, took control to force a third set.

He rescued 4 early break points in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
